Home Alive
The original painting is titled "Home Alive " and is part of my series of mixed-media paintings, "The Capitol Hill I Remember." Each painting in this series depicts a beloved old Capitol Hill establishment that has since been replaced by higher end businesses in this rapidly changing neighborhood. Capitol Hill is a neighborhood in Seattle that has been drastically impacted by gentrification. Home Alive existed in several different locations; this painting depicts the sign outside its location at 1415 10th Ave. E.
The original painting is 12" x 16" x 2" and was purchased by the City of Seattle in 2018 as part of the Office of Arts & Culture’s Seattle Public Utilities Fresh Perspectives Portable Artwork Purchase. I created the original painting in 2017 using beeswax, oil paint, graphite, and salvaged materials: old maps, pieces of antique mail, sheet music, and other found and salvaged collage elements from my very cherished personal collection.
