beneath every building lies a history of struggle and resiliency
I created this original painting, titled "beneath every building lies a history of struggle and resiliency," in 2008 using encaustic medium (beeswax), oil paint, graphite, and salvaged materials: old maps, sheet music, ticket stubs, remnants of my Spanish lessons, stamps, and photocopy transfers of photographs I took in Mexico and Guatemala.
This piece was inspired by time I spent in Mexico and Guatemala, studying Spanish and learning about indigenous struggles for justice & autonomy in their communities. It is filled with personal collage elements and is very dear to me.
